Mount Olive Baptist Church
The History of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church
In the late 1800s, the late Reverend Simon L. Taylor had a Godly vision, a vision that turned into reality when he bought a house from Mr. Frasier. After this major accomplishment, Rev. Taylor assembled followers of Christ within the Union Heights Community to form a congregation, and as result organized a church on Beech Avenue. A place of serene escape, built as a store house to teach the will of God was known as “Frasier Will Baptist Church”. The church was named after the original owner of the house.
In the year 1929, the church was remodeled with a change in the structural layout. The church building now faced Meeting Street Road, and the name was changed to “Mount Olive Baptist Church”. Due to the lack of schools in the black communities, several members and neighbors recalled the good ole days when Mount Olive served as a day school for the children in the community.
